Jennifer Jang is a doctoral student in Counseling Psychology working with Dr. Derek Iwamoto. Jen holds a B.A. in Educational Studies and minor in Anthropology from Emory University and two master's degrees in Counseling. She previously worked as a project coordinator at the Risk and Resilience Lab at the University of Pennsylvania and as a research assistant at the Racial Empowerment Collaborative and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. She also had the privilege of assisting with research advocating for refugees, being selected for a community leadership internship in India, and completing a service trip to Myanmar.

Her research interests focus broadly on the intersection of trauma, race, gender, culture, and mental health in underserved populations. Specifically, she is interested in examining how marginalized populations, such as racial/ethnic minorities and Asian Americans, uniquely experience and cope with oppression and trauma (e.g., abuse, sexual violence, racial trauma, institutional betrayal). Jen is passionate about highlighting the strengths and resilience of trauma survivors and translating her research into interventions that empower and equip underserved communities.
