Reante Talton (she/her) is a doctoral student in the Developmental Psychology Ph.D. program, working under the mentorship of Dr. Jude Cassidy. Reante graduated from the University of California, Riverside in 2022, having earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in African American Studies. Following her graduation, Reante pursued another degree at the California State University, Northridge and obtained a master’s degree in Psychological Sciences. Within this program, her thesis focused on extending the current knowledge on attachment theory, reflective functioning, and emotion regulation within the African American/ Black community.
In a broader context, Reante's research interests span across the theoretical framework of attachment theory and African American studies. She is particularly interested in examining the intersection of these fields to understand how attachment relationships are formed, maintained, and expressed within African American families. She hopes to emphasize the adaptive strategies African American parents use to foster secure attachments and emotional well-being in their children amidst socio-cultural stressors such as systemic racism, economic hardships, and community violence. She hopes to uncover how these families develop resilience and strength, and how cultural practices and community support systems contribute to these processes.
