From skeptics in political arenas to journalists and scientists scrutinizing each other's work, we have reached a moment where many of us question the value of science for the larger society. A great deal of this skepticism hinges on an assumption: That when two scientists conduct the same study and arrive at different findings, this must mean that at least one of them is not only wrong, but perhaps being unethical in how they carry out their work. But what if there is value in understanding the "why" and the "how" of these differences? Based on over a half-century of work in mental health, Dr. De Los Reyes recently delivered a TEDx talk on how to learn from discrepant results in studies of anything from the rates of diagnoses to the effects of therapies.
