Cansu Erkan

Bio

Cansu Erkan entered the Clinical Psychology doctoral program in Fall 2026 and works in the Clinical and Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory under the mentorship of Dr. Edward Bernat. Prior to joining UMD, she worked as a postbaccalaureate research fellow in Dr. Melissa Brotman's Section on Neuroscience and Novel Therapeutics at the National Institute of Mental Health, where she studied the neurobiological mechanisms of pediatric irritability and contributed to research investigating novel treatments. Cansu is interested in understanding how brain mechanisms relate to cognition and emotion in psychopathology, with a focus on translating research into clinical practice through collaboration with treatment centers.
