Bio

Jennifer Jang, M.S.Ed., M.A., M.S. (she/her), is a doctoral student in Counseling Psychology working with Dr. Derek Iwamoto. Jen holds a B.A. in Educational Studies and minor in Anthropology from Emory University and three master's degrees in counseling, mental health services, and counseling psychology. She previously worked as a project coordinator at the Risk and Resilience Lab at the University of Pennsylvania and as a research assistant at the Racial Empowerment Collaborative and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. She also had the privilege of assisting with research advocating for refugees, being selected for a community leadership internship in India, and completing a service trip to Myanmar.

Her research interests focus broadly on: (1) trauma experienced by Asian Americans (e.g., abuse, sexual violence, institutional betrayal), (2) the impact of oppression (e.g., gendered racism, sexism) on Asian American wellbeing from an intersectionality approach, and (3) the decolonization of psychology. Grounded in her values and experience in public health and community work, she is passionate about translating research into interventions and disseminating psychological research, practice, and education to empower and equip underserved communities. Across all of her work, Jen is committed to highlighting the strengths of trauma survivors, racial/ethnic minority communities, and the research participants and clients she serves.
